“Already we are helping to ensure that people don’t spend any longer in hospital than necessary, supporting them to return to their own homes and communities as early as possible”

ECL, The care & wellbeing company has appointed a new Commercial Director. Kerry Blair will be responsible for delivering the organisation’s ambitious business strategy and developing a more commercially aware organisation for commissioners and healthcare partners. ECL was previously known as Essex Cares.

In Essex and West Sussex, ECL provides short term reablement support. Services in Essex also include a home adaptations and equipment service.

Kerry has a track record in delivering business growth. In his previous role as Executive Director for Growth at the Terrance Higgins Trust he was responsible for managing both statutory revenue streams and the organisation’s highest ever level of voluntary income.

Commenting on his appointment, Kerry said: “I’m delighted to be joining ECL at such an exciting time. Helping people to live as independently as possible is a key focus of the Care Act and ECL is very well placed to deliver this kind of support in the communities where we work in Essex and West Sussex.

“Already we are helping to ensure that people don’t spend any longer in hospital than necessary, supporting them to return to their own homes and communities as early as possible. We’re also very passionate about making sure that people with learning disabilities play active roles in their local communities. With an ambitious strategy for growth, we’re now ready to push ahead and support even more people in the region.”

Kerry is also keen to build a business development team from ECL’s existing home-grown talent.

Mike Fitzgerald, acting Managing Director of ECL, added: “We are very excited to have someone of Kerry’s calibre join our team. His vast experience of the social care sector, combined with high level skills and expertise are a great match with our business and I’m sure will prove invaluable as we move forward and seek to develop the organisation further.”

A complete business review has also led to a new delivery model and the benefits, as the new ECL gains traction, will be greater customer choice and control in accessing and paying for services that they and their carers need.
