Building on the success of its most popular CPD webinar in April, accessible bathroom manufacturer Closomat has announced a new webinar for healthcare professionals about accessible bathroom design to support independent ageing.

For over a year, Closomat has been hosting regular thought-provoking webinars in partnership with The OT Service.

Because of the national lockdown, Closomat wanted to provide CPD learning for healthcare workers via Zoom and created the ‘OT Webinar Series’. This series has been attended by thousands of occupational therapists, making them one of the most watched group of virtual events in the healthcare sector.

The series’ most-attended live event, which took place in April and discussed working with plus-size people, was so popular that Closomat has decided to run a similar themed event.

Entitled ‘Older people – Accessible bathroom design to support independent ageing’, the webinar will take place at 11am on 29th June 2021.

Robin Tuffley, Closomat Marketing Manager, said: “All of our webinars have been well attended but registrations for our Plus-size event, were beyond expectation!

“However we felt that it’s important to cover all aspects of health and all age groups. Older people can often be an overlooked or forgotten demographic as their age can mask long-term and significant impairments.”

The event will be structured in a way to provide attendees a forum to ask questions at the end of the webinar and have them answered live by special guest speaker and Occupational Therapist (OT) Meera Vitarana.

Meera, an OT specialising in major domestic adaptations, has almost 10 years of clinical experience, providing bespoke living solutions for all groups of people but predominantly focusing on maintaining older people’s independence to live alone (or as close as possible).

Scheduled to run for an hour, the webinar’s learning outcomes will be:

  • Develop awareness of bathroom design principles for the client group
  • Consider the impact of proactive housing interventions
  • Reflect on how to apply legislation and guidance to formulate clinically reasoned recommendations
