Ottobock Quickchange adapter image

Ottobock has unveiled a new product to enable lower limb amputees to change their prosthetic feet faster than they can change their shoes.

Quickchange is an innovative two-part adapter which sits at the bottom of the wearer’s socket for below-knee amputees and for above-knee amputees at the bottom of their MPK or mechanical knee.

A second component is fitted to the top the shin tube or ankle/foot, and the two parts connect via magnets and a locking pin. A twist of the pin releases the two parts of the prosthesis so it can be changed, meaning someone could go from wearing a high heeled prosthesis for work to a sports’ prosthesis in seconds.

The Quickchange system is easy to fit, and crucially, is simple for someone to use independently with no tools required.

Emma Gillespie, head of Prosthetics at Ottobock UK, said: “Ottobock’s new Quickchange adapter is unique because it is so quick and so simple, that it gives an amputee ultimate freedom and flexibility to wear what they need, when they need it.

“We all live in a world where most things can be achieved with one click, and now we can add our lower-limb prostheses to that list thanks to Quickchange.”

Ottobock is a supplier of innovative and practical solutions that restore human mobility and help people to rediscover personal independence. Its wide product range includes prosthetic and orthotic components, wheelchairs, rehabilitation and mobility products.
