Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle specialist Lewis Reed will be showcasing several examples from its range on stand K55 at Naidex. Cars being showcased include the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, the VW Caravelle Exec, the SEAT Alhambra and the VW Caddy Maxi Exec.

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class provides safety and performance with standard features including privacy glass, alloy wheels, and chrome trim elements on both the Sport and AMG models. Accessible features include a rear tail lift and electric sliding doors fitted on both sides, whilst the large automatic powered tailgate opens to enable a remote controlled rear tail lift or rear ramp with lowering suspension (XL only), aiding the wheelchair user’s entry into the vehicle. A side lift is also available.

The VW Caravelle is a flexible people carrier that includes electrically adjustable door mirrors, electric windows, remote locking, a range of innovative radio and infotainment systems, climatic air conditioning, cruise control and swivelling middle seats. The vehicle comes with a front, middle or rear wheelchair position option and the adjustable chair positions allows for conversations and interactions between passengers. For side access, the VW Caravelle features a slim side lift that discreetly fits under the side of the car.  Alternatively, there is a rear access tail lift or lowered floor, lowering suspension, and innovative TorSpring Ramp rear access options.

The Caravelle Executive comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, an easy-to-reach dash-mounted gear lever or users can opt for the seven-speed, Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). The twin sliding doors and the option of a fully automated entry system as well make the vehicle highly specified.

The SEAT Alhambra MPV wheelchair accessible vehicle offers a combination of sportiness with an environmental conscience. The Alhambra features a lowered floor and TorSpring Ramp to ensure entries and exits are simple. In addition to rear entry, the Alhambra is equipped with two wide side sliding doors as standard. The Lewis Reed conversion features two fixed seat passenger seats in the rear, with a removable middle third seat passenger seat allowing the wheelchair user to sit further forward, ensuring maximum inclusion for the journey.

Completing the portfolio of vehicles on show will be the VW Caddy Maxi Exec, featuring the longest lowered floor in its class.  This unique design allows it to accommodate a variety of different wheelchair positions and up to 5 passenger seats and one wheelchair position.

The optional Flexi-seat seating system from Lewis Reed retains the original layout of the Volkswagen Caddy and when needed, combinations of seats can fold forward to allow extra room for a travelling wheelchair passenger, empty wheelchair or scooter. Seats can also be removed completely to offer more space if required.
