To coincide with World Sleep Day, Abacus and The OT Service will be hosting a free Abacus Academy CPD webinar for occupational therapists entitled: ‘Bathing and sleeping – joining the dots.’

Running on 17th March 2021, the live webinar will take place from 12pm-1pm with an occupational therapy Q&A session. For healthcare professionals that can’t attend the live session, a pre-recorded webinar will also run from 6pm-7pm on the same day.

The session will be presented by Occupational Therapist Adam Ferry.

As many bathing assessments focus on the physical transfer of getting in and out of the bath, this educational webinar explores the occupation of bathing with a particular focus on how bathing can support sleep and positive routines.

In support of World Sleep day on 19th March, the session considers their ‘Healthy sleep for healthy future’ message by considering the impact of sleep on education, behaviour, cognition, play, mental and physical health.

Adam will also discuss bathing from the perspective of the child, their parents as well as adults and their carers.

By attending, delegates will reflect on bathing as a meaningful occupation and have a greater appreciation of the link between bathing and sleep. Furthermore, healthcare professionals will consider the impact of a positive bedtime routine on clients and their carers and develop greater understanding of equipment available to support bathing as a meaningful occupation.

The new Abacus Academy online resource enhances everyday practice for OTs, physiotherapists and moving & handling practitioners. It provides a range of free, up-to-date educational material that supports CPD through bitesize videos, practical and theoretical material, downloads and case studies.

CPD certificates are available to professionals who learn via the academy and will also be available to attendees after the latest live Abacus webinar.
