Pivotell BioCote 1

Leading automatic pill dispenser distributor, Pivotell Ltd, has partnered with the world leader in antimicrobial technology to take medication management to the next level.

Pivotell Ltd are the sole UK distributor for Pharmacell Medication Systems Ltd (a company long committed to providing the highest quality of medication management possible) and their new dispensers now incorporate BioCote, a premium silver ion technology that is introduced during the manufacturing stage to provide the ultimate protection against harmful microbes such as bacteria, mould and even viruses.

The new dispensers have demonstrated reductions of over 99.9%, and set the bar even higher for the medication management market. The silver additives have a negative effect on any contaminating surface microbe causing them to die – through proven protein and oxidative damage, membrane disruption and DNA interference.

BioCote technology makes the dispenser inherently more hygienic and addresses a recognised problem within carousel medication delivery: cross contamination. Crucially, the devices are now easier to keep hygienically clean for the patients, their family and visiting carers, plus pharmacists and their staff who are all regularly handling the device.

Adrian Milne, Director of Pharmacell Medication Systems Ltd, says: “It’s a matter of ethics for us and bringing added value that makes a tangible difference. The product is generally supplied to older, more vulnerable people, who by virtue of their condition (early dementia, Parkinson’s, COPD to name a few) are especially vulnerable to infection, so being BioCote protected gives us a clear USP and means our new dispensers properly protect multi users.
“We look forward to a very long and productive partnership with BioCote, because their proven antimicrobial technology will generate significant benefits for Pharmacell Medication Systems and all their distributors, not least Pivotell Ltd in the UK.

“We’ve asked all our larger customers and many individual healthcare professionals if they support the inclusion of antimicrobial additives into the dispenser plastics – and have had an overwhelmingly positive response. They’re mainly health and social care professionals – either in the NHS, Local Authority Adult Social Care organisations, Telecare and Telehealth providers, or in pharmacy – so dramatically improving infection control and care packages is of huge significance to them all.”

Guy Charteris, Partner Development Manager for BioCote Ltd, adds: “Pivotell are just the sort of quality-driven partner we like to work with long term for the greater good, because our respective products are all about enhancing people’s quality of life and product experience.

“By means of superior hygiene levels, the inclusion of BioCote Silver Ion Antimicrobial Technology significantly reduces the potential for the transmission of harmful microbes between users and with an ageing population this will only escalate, so we’re delighted to play a vital duty of care role too.

“Our quality control procedures really are second to none and require Pivotell to consistently demonstrate above global standards of antimicrobial performance to continue carrying our trademark. No other antimicrobial provider enforces this measure – but Pivotell to their credit welcome this level and degree of transparency too.

“What a partner like Pivotell also gets from us is hard evidence that the manufacturing process is working and data to support any marketing claims (a legal requirement), plus of course peace of mind their product and ours is doing exactly what we say it is.”
Pivotell automatic pill dispensers are used by health and social care professional as an integral component of a targeted care package for medically compromised and vulnerable adults – primarily in their own homes – who have difficulty managing their medication. This can be either stand alone, include alert messaging, or be linked to Telecare Lifeline response. Visit http://www.pivotell.co.uk/

When manufactured into products and materials. BioCote antimicrobial technology creates surfaces upon which microbes cannot survive. It reduces bacteria and mould by up to 99.99% and even antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria like MRSA, EBSL-producing E.coli, Clostridium difficile and Klebsiella pneumoniae, CPEs like Escherichia, Salmonella and Shigella, plus invasive Candida auris are eliminated. It has even been proven to deactivate the H1N1 influenza virus – and BioCote technology will last for the functional lifetime of any product it is integrated into. Visit http://www.biocote.com
