Sheffield-based postural support equipment company Jenx has been shortlisted for two Sheffield Business Awards in recognition of its contribution to helping change the lives of thousands of children around the world.

Shortlisted in both the ‘SME of the Year’ and ‘Special Recognition’ categories, Jenx has been acknowledged for providing specialist equipment to some of the world’s most vulnerable children.

Founded in 1982 and originally operating the business from their home, Jenx was set up by Clive, a product designer and Catherine, a paediatric physiotherapist, to address an unmet need – specialised postural support equipment for children with disabilities. Now, Jenx is the longest standing company of its kind in the UK and one of the most well-respected names in the paediatric postural support industry.

Jenx designs and manufactures life-changing postural support equipment for children, made available worldwide through an international network of distributors and in the UK through its dedicated distribution division Jiraffe.

One of the only UK businesses who do end to end on-site manufacturing, from initial concept creation, design, engineering through to distribution, Jenx is unique and innovative.

Clive and Catherine have used the platform they developed with Jenx to contribute to the community, creating jobs for hundreds of Sheffield residents over the years, boasting an impressive apprentice and work experience programme, ongoing charity partnerships, and regularly working in schools to educate pupils and welcoming schools to tour their factory.

The Sheffield Business Awards, organised by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, recognises the very best in business in the region and applauds those who have made a significant impact to the area’s economy and community.

Holly Jenkins, Jiraffe Divisional Director, said: “We are so pleased to be shortlisted for two Sheffield Business Awards. To be acknowledged for both the success of our business and how it has impacted so many children’s lives, and for our founders to be praised for their incredible contribution to the industry and the local area is fantastic.

“Both awards highlight our commitment in providing the very best, life-changing products for children all over the world and the nominations are a testament to the continued hard work, dedication and passion of each and every person in the business.”

The winners will be announced at The Sheffield Business Awards ceremony on the 5th of December at Ponds Forge International Centre.

Holly concluded: “When Catherine and Clive set up the business in their home back in 1982 they had a very clear vision of helping to provide a better life and a brighter future for children with special needs. Almost forty years later this remains the driving force of everything Jenx do, ensuring the business is set to help many more young people for years to come.”
