Abacus will exhibit at Kidz Middle 2019 image

Kate Sheehan, a highly experienced occupational therapist from The OT Service, will be delivering a CPD-accredited assisted bathing seminar at Kidz to Adultz Middle on the 21st of March.

The Kidz exhibitions provide an opportunity for visitors to see the latest assistive products and services for disabled children and young adults.

Kate works in collaboration with accessible bathroom specialist Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions, which will also be exhibiting at Kidz Middle. The OT Service is a key partner of Abacus ‘Lunch and Learn’ and ‘CPD Assisted Bathing Workshops’ which provide free assisted bathing education and training for healthcare professionals.

The CPD seminar led by Kate – ‘Bathing – a right to play’ – will be head in Seminar Room 2 at 2pm at the exhibition.

Play, along with the basic needs of nutrition, health, shelter and education are vital to develop the potential of a child according to the United Nations. However, in the UK, many children play at bath time yet it is not often a primary consideration within an OT’s recommendations during the assessment process.

The session will explore “play” as an occupation and consider how legislation and clinical reasoning can used to support the necessity of a bath in the design process.

The overall aims are to:

  • Have an overview of “play” as an occupation
  • Be able to list the relevant legislation to support bathing
  • Explain how clinical reasoning can used to support the necessity of a bath in the design process

There will also be the opportunity to enter a free prize draw to win a cuddly toy version of the Abacus mascot, Trevor the Turtle.

As well as working in partnership with Kate Sheehan, Abacus will be showcasing its Gemini 2000 bath and BioCote antimicrobial protection on stand E14 at Kidz Middle.

Abacus manufactures specialist baths with variable height and/or powered bather transfer seats that provide safety, dignity and comfort for disabled bathers, whilst moving and handling best practice is enhanced for carers.

Part of the Gainsborough Healthcare Group, Abacus delivers a complete support package from initial bather assessment through to product provision, installation and after-sales servicing. Its Assessors focus on the needs of bathers and carers through a structured assessment-led process – enhanced by OT expertise and an ethical ethos.

Its new Gemini 2000 bath offers a future-proofed solution for both paediatric and adult bathers.

Building on the success of the 1700mm long Gemini with integrated platform, this larger version delivers a flexible, space-appropriate design with pioneering BioCote that combats Superbugs. This proven infection-controlling solution cannot be wiped or worn away – hence providing 99.9 percent 24/7 protection against harmful microbes such as Influenza H1N1, E.coli, Salmonella and antibiotic resistant MRSA.

According to Abacus, the Gemini 2000 bath is the largest and longest platform bath available with unique dual lift technology and a multi-purpose in-built platform. This facilitates easier transfers, drying and bathing, resulting in improved comfort, dignity and safety for disabled bathers.

Kidz Middle takes place on Thursday 21st March 2019 from 9.30am – 4.30pm at the Ericsson Exhibition Hall in the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
