A specialist hearing centre in Lancaster is now offering its patients the world’s first AI-powered hearing aid – the Livio AI – which combines a functional hearing aid with smart tracking features such as falls detection and brain tracking.

Lancaster-based Tailored Hearing Solutions will be offering the innovative hearing technology to its patients in the UK, which incorporates integrated sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) to track physical and cognitive health.

Livio AI was developed by US-based company Starkey Hearing Technologies. Its world-first in AI-powered hearing technology combines a high-performance hearing aid with a range of other intuitive features, including tracking hearing health, falls detection, wireless streaming and personalised hearing.

Additionally, Livio AI is the first hearing aid to feature Amazon Alexa connectivity and has the ability to translate up to 27 languages directly into the hearing aid.

Bhavika Chauhan, Audioligist and Owner of Tailored Hearing Solutions, told Bdaily: “Livio AI is so much more than just a hearing aid, it is a gateway to better health and wellness.

“Until now, there has never been a device that tracks physical activity and cognitive health as measured by hearing aid use in social situations. Most fitness tracking devices use the wrist, but the ear provides far more accurate data – in fact, it’s the ideal spot for reliable tracking, and Livio AI is the first-ever device to take advantage of that.”

The hearing aids come with a Thrive ‘virtual assistant’ app which allows wearers to create geotagged ‘memories’ to automatically adjust sound to preferred settings in specific places they’ve been to before.

It also collates tracked health data to give a ‘Body’ score, based on a combination of step count and other movement, and a ‘Brain’ score, based on daily use, ‘engagement’ in conversations or streaming.

With the Thrive app, users can also personalise their hearing aids to reduce background noise, enhance and optimise speech, monitor their heart rate, and transcribe conversations to their smartphone.

Bhavika concluded: “We’re delighted that our patients here in Lancaster will be among the first in the UK to experience the next generation of hearing and health technology.”
