Abbie Hunnisett, one of Britain’s hopes for a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, is able to enjoy the outdoors again after using All Terrain Wheelchair’s Extreme X8 Powerchair.

21-year-old Abbie was born with quadriplegic ataxic athetoid Cerebral Palsy, which affects all her limbs and speech. The family’s home backs onto woodland and when she was young, her father Mark would carry her out around the woods as it was impossible for a buggy or wheelchair to handle the wet and uneven land.

The Extreme X8 is capable of navigating the terrain, featuring articulated frame technology that ensures all four driving wheels remain in contact with the ground as the 14” lower pressure tyres provide necessary traction.

Mark commented: “The Extreme X8 has reopened this world to Abbie and she loves it. Even getting around the garden was not possible unless the ground was hard and dry, as her wheelchair would sink, but now Abbie can get outside as often as she wants and wherever she wants.”

The young Paralympian finished 4th at the Rio Paralympics last year in the club throw event after realising she had a natural talent for it when on a family holiday to France back in 2012. Abbie is now looking ahead to 2020 Tokyo and that coveted gold medal.

Richard Kusnierz, Director of All Terrain Wheelchairs, commented: “It is great to hear what a positive affect the Extreme X8 has had on Abbie’s lifestyle and independence and everyone here at All Terrain Wheelchairs would like to wish her the best of luck as she continues her club throwing and training for Tokyo 2020.”

Every powerchair supplied by All Terrain Wheelchairs is bespoke and available with a range of seating and control options to ensure there is a suitable model for anyone.
