The new online Abacus Academy is now live, providing free CPD bathing education to healthcare professionals.

Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions has invested in its new Academy to support occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and moving and handling practitioners.

Containing the latest guidance from occupational therapists, the Abacus Academy is an easy-to-use portal to enhance everyday practice with material that counts towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolios. Visitors are able to qualify for CPD certificates via reflective logs and bespoke material is available on request.

This new resource is free for healthcare professionals and aims to become the hub for all education regarding assisted bathing.

Topics available at launch include evidence-based practice, posture, and moving and handling, with more to follow. From bitesize videos and theoretical papers to client case studies, the Abacus Academy provides a holistic approach to knowledge and training.

To complement written information, the Abacus Academy offers a platform for webinars and video assessments. Simple online booking calendars are available so occupational therapists can book slots for video bath demonstrations, client assessments or tailored educational presentations.

Videos are broadcast from the Abacus demonstration vehicles and provide an alternative to physical meetings or exhibitions. There is no limit to the number of attendees for training and Abacus says each client assessment is convenient when multiple people are involved with decision making for a disabled bather.

The Abacus Academy also provides a quick quote request page along with information on its respected Regional Assessment Managers.

Peter Eckhardt, Gainsborough Healthcare Group CEO, said: “We welcome all healthcare professionals to the new Abacus Academy. Its current content is only the beginning as it represents the platform we will use for all our education and training – whether online, in the field or at exhibitions.

“Our team has worked closely with our OT partners to provide quality, informed content so ultimately the occupational performance of bathers is enhanced through professional knowledge.”
