Case study: Adaptive stroller helps young girl with cerebral palsy maintain correct postural position
The Caretta Buggy from Baffin Technology Systems is helping an 11-year-old girl with cerebral palsy to maintain the correct postural position at all times, while a soft suspension enables the stroller to tackle uneven terrain.
Annemarie was born with cerebral palsy, which means she is unable to sit or walk without support. Towards the end of last year, Annemarie’s parents decided to look for a new stroller, as she had outgrown her previous one.
Her father, Kirill, explains: “Buying a buggy for Annemarie is not a quick process as it has to be perfect and meet all Annamarie’s requirements. After researching online, we came across the Caretta Buggy from Baffin and it looked perfect, so we got in touch.”
Following an initial telephone conversation, Anita and Merzena visited Annemarie and her parents to carry out an assessment to ensure the Caretta Buggy was the right product for Annemarie.

The Caretta Buggy is an adaptive stroller for children and young adults between 4’3”-5’3” who require support when moving around or sitting.
A five-point safety harness/vest and straps stabilise the pelvis to ensure the user can be transported in comfort while maintaining the correct postural position at all times, which is so important for children with cerebral palsy like Annemarie.
In addition to being small enough when folded to fit in most standard car boots, the Caretta has also been crash tested. Further comfort is provided by the headrest system that ensures the head is supported at all times. The height of the head rest, side supports, and tilt function of the seat can all be easily adjusted.
Another feature of the Caretta Buggy that impressed Kirill was the soft suspension, as this enables the family to go for walks over terrain, which was unsuitable for Annemarie’s previous stroller.
The family can also go out in any weather thanks to the visor and leg covers, which keep Annemarie dry and warm even when it is very cold outside.
