In time for Deaf Awareness Week commencing on 2 May 2022, online retailer Hearing Aid Accessories is releasing a unique mobile app designed to support those with hearing loss.

The app aims to be a comprehensive repository of both products and information around the subject of hearing health. It is, according to the retailer, “something of a watershed moment” for the 11 million people in the UK currently living with hearing-related conditions.

Through the app, users could find out more about bespoke hearing protection designed specifically for musicians or industry workers, a brand-specific hearing aid dehumidifier, an advanced TV streamer, or new wax guards for hearing aids.

Available on both iOS and Android through the Apple and Google Store from 4 May 2022, the app will also feature 10 percent off the first purchase across Hearing Aid Accessories’ extensive range of products for those who pre-register.

The app is the brainchild of CEO Samantha Bennett, a fully trained and qualified audiologist with more than two decades of experience taking care of people with hearing loss.

Sam has drawn from her personal as well as her professional life, as her husband, Ben, has had to deal with hearing loss for nearly 30 years due to his time spent in the Armed Forces. Her experiences with Ben have helped inform the rest of her career, and this latest project is no different.

She explained: “It’s amazing to think that so much is invested on relatively frivolous things like games apps, and yet we have 1 in 6 people in the UK with hearing loss and no app out there to cater to their needs.

“I think the pandemic really highlighted the need to be able to access replacement parts online. Hospitals were discouraging patients from entering and shops were closed: they had nowhere else to go. Although the period was undeniably good for business, it shows you that there is a real need out there that isn’t being fulfilled.”

Recently, hearing aid manufacturer Oticon secured the internationally acclaimed Red Dot Design Award: Product Design 2022 for two of its innovative hearing technologies. One award was given for its Oticon Play PX paediatric hearing aids that support children’s hearing to develop naturally. The other award was given for the company’s SmartCharger for a more convenient power solution to enable users to travel light.
