Innovative classroom VR tool for children with educational needs wins coveted award

A virtual reality (VR) device from assistive technology specialist Inclusive Technology has been selected as a winner in the prestigious 2019 SIIA CODiE Awards, which celebrate the very best products, innovators and leaders in the technology sector.

Inclusive ClassVR was awarded the title of ‘Best Solution for Exceptional Students’, a category which recognises applications specifically designed to benefit students with special educational needs (SEN).

The tool provides immersive, sensory experiences, where users can safely interact and explore virtual worlds and environments without the restriction of physical limitations.

One of the judges at the SIIA CODiE Awards commented: “This was a fascinating product to review. I can see some very powerful implications for student learning with Inclusive ClassVR.

“It is so exciting to think that a technology has the potential to help students not only achieve academic success, but also reach beyond the classroom and help students learn for success in their daily lives. Truly amazing!”

The assistive device gives users access to hundreds of curriculum-aligned, virtual and augmented reality resources, which are designed to educate, motivate and raise engagement for students, regardless of age and ability.

It works by giving disabled children sensory stimulation in 360º experiences, which enhance and complement their real-world exploration and enable play. The kit includes four standalone headsets in a bespoke storage and charging case, alongside an easy-to-use Teacher Portal.

Founded in 1996, Inclusive Technology is a provider of special educational needs software; switches and computer access devices; communication aids; eye gaze; and assistive technology for learners with a physical disability, sensory impairment or learning difficulty.
