LIMB-art, a North Wales-based company that designs and manufactures stylish and innovative prosthetic leg covers, has been presented with a coveted King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.

The esteemed award, which recognises outstanding innovations from UK business, was presented to LIMB-art on 4 December 2024 by the Lord Lieutenant for Clwyd, Mr. Henry George Fetherstonhaugh OBE DL, in a special ceremony.

LIMB-art was created after the founder, Dr Mark Williams, himself an amputee, discovered many amputees felt their prosthetics did not represent their personality and style, leading to feelings of self-consciousness.

After making a cover for his prosthetic to get a leg shape under trousers, the founder personalised it to look “cool” by spraying it to match his car. Many amputees commented on his social media posts and asked to make them one. Realising there was a market, the company was founded and now offers customised decorations.

LIMB-art offers four unique prosthetic leg covers: Core, Wave, Vent, and Ultralight. All of the covers can be customised in different colours and designs to meet the wearer’s wants, so they can have a design that reflects their personality.

The King’s Award for Innovation recognises LIMB-art’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and technology, enabling prosthetic users to celebrate their individuality with confidence. This accolade is a testament to the company’s mission of helping people ‘Stand Out and Stand Proud.’

Dr Mark Williams DBA PLY, Paralympic medallist and the founder of LIMB-art, expressed his gratitude for receiving the award: “This award is not just for us, but for everyone who has supported LIMB-art’s journey. It’s a proud moment for our team and the entire community of prosthetic users who inspire us every day.”
