With increasing global concerns about the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), Med-Tech Innovation Expo, the UK and Ireland’s leading event for medical device design and manufacturing technology, has been postponed to the 29th-30th of September 2020.

The decision comes as the Coronavirus situation escalates in the UK and therefore the growing concerns about the health and safety of the event’s exhibitors, visitors, partners and staff.

Originally scheduled for the 1st-2nd of April, in a statement released by the exhibition today, it has said after monitoring the Coronavirus situation closely and consulting with exhibitors and partners, it has determined that it is in the best interest of all parties to postpone the event.

Issued today, an official statement from Med-Tech Innovation Expo organiser Rapid News Group says: “With global concern regarding the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) escalating, and after monitoring the situation closely over the last few weeks and consulting with exhibitors and partners Rapid News Group have determined that it is in the best interest of all parties to postpone their Med-Tech Innovation Expo, scheduled for April 1-2 to September.

“The latest developments have significantly increased the concerns of participating companies about the health of their employees. Rapid News Group has the same concerns, having health and safety of their exhibitors, visitors, partners and staff as a number one priority.

“Therefore working in conjunction with the NEC and in close consultation with their exhibitors and partners, Rapid News Group have rescheduled to 29-30 September 2020 and are confident that these new dates will deliver an excellent alternative timing, offering clarity to exhibitors and visitors.”

Med-Tech Innovation Expo will now run alongside Rapid News Group’s other successful industrial events, Interplas, The UK’s No.1 Plastics show and TCT 3Sixty.

Recently, Naidex, the UK’s largest independent living and healthcare event, also announced the difficult decision to postpone its exhibition amidst the growing Coronavirus concerns in order to protect the health and safety of its visitors. However, the rescheduled dates for Naidex are to be confirmed on the 16th of March 2020.

Duncan Wood, CEO of Rapid News Group, commented: “In unprecedented and extremely fast-moving circumstances we have to make a very difficult decision to postpone our event until September.

“We are aware that this decision will require industry professionals, exhibitors, partners and visitors to reschedule their attendance, which will have an impact on their organisations, as it will for Rapid News Group. We are grateful that given the current situation everyone involved has understood and supported our decision.”

Med-Tech Innovation Expo brings together designers, engineers, innovators and manufacturers from across the medical and healthcare sectors to explore new ideas, understand emerging technologies, and source innovative products and services from over 300 companies representing the complete medical device and manufacturing supply chain.

Med-Tech Innovation Expo will now take place in Hall 2 at the NEC, Birmingham, from 29th-30th September 2020.
