New power assist device transforms manual wheelchairs into portable powerchairs
Medical equipment manufacturer Invacare has announced the US launch of its next generation of power assist devices – the e-fix eco.
The Alber e-fix eco Power Assist transforms a manual wheelchair into a portable power chair via a joystick, battery and in-wheel motors.
Equipped with a new modern design for the wheel hub, colour display, battery, and battery bag, the e-fix eco represents a “significant upgrade” from the previous generation, according to the firm. It has a quick-release mechanism, making it easy to remove the wheels for transport.
The e-fix eco further features a clutch, multiple joystick options and energy recovering braking technology, which transfers power back into the battery. It is designed to be lightweight and provide a stable, discreet source of power for manual wheelchairs.
This latest power assist device is part of Invacare’s e-fix family, which offers numerous benefits to users. This includes enhanced mobility and independence, as the add-ons are easy to take on and off a manual wheelchair for travel; convenience, as users can get power when they need it or use the free-wheel mode to propel manually with ease; and attendant control, where a simple control unit mounts to the back canes to give a caregiver control of the chair for easier mobility.
The attendant control function allows the e-fix eco to be used as an aid to push the user while also providing adjustment to push and brake. It is suitable for use over uneven terrain and sensors translate the control pulse into the steering movement.
