An innovative new sling range with patented designs and enhanced benefits for users and carers has been launched by moving and handling specialist Care & Independence.

The GLOVE Diamond Deluxe and GLOVE Diamond Deluxe Plus slings have been designed with feedback from occupational therapists (OTs) and users in mind to ensure optimal comfort.

The slings provide full-body support with a patented diamond-shaped aperture, reducing pressure on the sacrum and coccyx when hoisted and providing increased toileting access.

Further comfort- and performance-enhancing features include patented binding-free leg sections constructed from Hyperlast slidesheet material on both front and back plus vertebrae section to help reduce tissue viability risks caused from drag and shear.

Leg sections also benefit from 3Dweave spacer material padding that stretches to better support the body and keeps its form and position throughout the sling life, the provider says.

Additionally, Care & Independence’s patent-pending positioning pockets innovation promotes greater dignity for users in hoisting, better safe patient handling practices and avoids compromising ease of fitting from awkwardly placed protruding grab handles or straps.

“When we launched the first GLOVE sling over fifteen years ago it was met with huge acclaim from clinicians and users alike within the patient moving and handling space – so much so that others could only flatter us by imitating what we created and following where we led,” James Bennett, Care & Independence Sales and Marketing Director, said.

“From the market feedback we’ve received and pressure mapping evidence from third party testing now completed, we firmly believe that the GLOVE Diamond Deluxe and GLOVE Diamond Deluxe Plus will set new industry standards for years to come.”

The early design prototype was first showcased at The OT Show in 2019 and since then Care & Independence has developed multiple iterations, undertaken extensive testing and field trials, and obtained important feedback from users and OTs.

James hails this moving and handling range as being “a game-changer” for those less abled and their carers. He also said that the “astounding” pressure mapping results for the slings in the coming weeks once Care & Independence has analysed the data.
