Knightsbridge Furniture has been selected to fit out The Harbour mental health hospital in Blackpool following a competitive tender.

The furniture manufacturer was appointed by NHS Shared Business Services, working on behalf of Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, to provide furniture for The Harbour, a new £40m 154-bed facility designed to offer high quality, therapeutic care.

The company manufactured a number of specially designed pieces of furniture, created with reinforced frames and durable materials, for many of the hospital’s bedrooms, dining areas and communal spaces. Working closely with NHS Shared Business Services, Knightsbridge also crafted several bespoke items specifically for the scheme.

Alan Towns, Managing Director at Knightsbridge, said: “It’s fantastic to know that residents and their families will be able to enjoy our furniture at The Harbour. Our mental health collection has been created with the user in mind, promoting safety and security while ensuring a stylish design. This is a truly brilliant project and we’re very pleased to have been a part of it.”

Knightsbridge, which develops and manufactures all of its products from its factory in Bradford, has been an approved supplier of furniture for the NHS and SHS for more than 60 years. The company was commissioned to fit out the new hospital after impressing NHS Shared Business Services with its attention to detail and flexible approach to creating bespoke items.
Commenting on Knightsbridge’s contribution to the project, Christopher Parkin, Capital Projects Buyer for NHS Shared Business Services, said: “The quality of Knightsbridge’s furniture, as well as its commitment to ensuring its products always meets the requirements of our Clinical Team not only helped to ensure that the project was delivered on time but enhanced the overall aesthetic feel of the building.”
