Derby DrivAbility, part of the Driving Mobility network, will be hosting a free mobility event for healthcare professionals (HCPs), approved driving instructors (ADIs), and the general public next month to learn about some of the assistive technologies that can support disabled drivers and passengers.

Derby DrivAbility’s Open Day will showcase its services alongside a selection of specialist accessible vehicles and mobility products from experienced and professional suppliers and there will also be a series of short talks suited to professionals and the general public.

The open day will take place Tuesday 14 June from 11am-5pm in Kingsway, Derby.

It will give visitors the opportunity to explore specialist equipment for driving, wheelchair loading and passenger safety.

Both professional and public visitors will gain valuable knowledge regarding adapted driving and WAVs (wheelchair accessible vehicles) and equipment for travelling safely as a passenger, either for themselves or for clients. A range of adapted controls and equipment will be on display including left-foot accelerators, steering aids, hand controls, ring accelerators, wheelchair hoists, rotating seats and specialist car seats for children.

While all visitors will have the opportunity to create connections, public attendees will have the chance to learn more about the driving options available to them and the specialist instructors that can guide them through the learning journey.

Liz Whiteman, Centre Manager/Lead Clinician, commented: “We welcome everyone with an interest in independent mobility to attend our open day. Our friendly team will be on hand to answer all queries regarding driving with a disability and the assistive products on display.

“You will be able to find out about the full range of assessment services we offer and see adapted vehicles, children’s specialist car seats and mobility scooters. Local services such as Cycle Derby and Shopmobility will also be exhibiting.”

No booking is required to attend the open day. To find out more, email: dhft.driving@nhs.net or call: 01332 788300
