Presenting its most comprehensive educational programme ever, Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions, in association with The OT Service, has been awarded at the OT Show 2022 and experienced its highest event visitor attendance.

Part of the Gainsborough Healthcare Group, Abacus is a UK manufacturer that works closely with occupational therapists (OTs), bathers, and families to ensure positive bathing outcomes for all.

As a specialist in inclusive bathing, Abacus is committed to providing free CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for OTs through its Academy. Its latest Abacus Academy material, in association with The OT Service, was awarded at the end of day one at the OT Show for ‘Best on-stand education’.

Abacus provides regular free CPD webinars, ‘Lunch n Learn’ product demonstrations, online resources, and seminars at exhibitions.

Its suite of sessions at the OT Show last week, led by respected OTs on stand D20, included engaging and topical content such as: ‘Sensory bathing – bridging the gap’, by Jacqui Waller, OT, and ‘Future-proofing bathing’, ‘Handling’ the bather – finding practical solutions’, and ‘Proportionate spending – using adaptations to reduce long term costs’ by Adam Ferry, OT.

All of the CPD content was highly relevant to OT everyday practice, which was reflected in the numbers that attended the show.

Peter Eckhardt, Gainsborough CEO, said: “The Abacus team and I were proud to witness how our valued brand continues to educate and support many healthcare professionals.

“We continue to be firm believers in CPD with a view to helping OTs achieve the best bathing outcome for disabled clients through enhanced knowledge, understanding and insight.”

Peter added: “The popularity of our seminars and being awarded ‘Best on-stand education’ are testament to the quality of content produced in partnership with the OT Service.

“The success of this latest event gives us yet another strong platform to build upon for the good of vulnerable bathers, their families and those that support them clinically.”

In between the busy CPD on-stand and Innovation Theatre presentations, visitors were able to test and trial three bathing solutions from the Abacus portfolio: the award-winning hi-lo Gemini 2000 platform bath, Aries 2000, and Scorpio 1800 with bather transfer seat.

Individual client scenarios were discussed with the Abacus Regional Assessment Managers who offered free home client assessments and bath demonstrations in their fleet of educational vehicles.

Recently, Abacus presented a posture and bathing seminar by Kate Sheehan, OT, as part of its CPD programme for healthcare professionals at Kidz to Adultz Wales and West.
