AAT GB stairclimber imageAAT GB is looking to address the issue of children and adults with impairments currently struggling with getting up and down stairs in their residence through a range of helpful stairclimber resources.

Many children and adults with impairments are currently struggling with discharge from hospital, or inability to access parts of their home, because of problems getting up and down stairs in their residence.

However, AAT GB says that occupational therapists (OTs) and adaptation teams have an easy solution to this problem, which may not require major funding: using the resources of AAT GB.

The company offers OTs and adaptation teams a free client assessment by whatever means is appropriate for each case – remote, virtual or actual. The facility is available nationwide.

Further helping accelerate the hospital discharge or adaptation process, provision of a stairclimber is usually classed as a minor adaptation or provision of equipment, emphasises AAT GB.

Most local authorities already have at least one stairclimber in their stores, AAT GB notes, which can be quickly deployed to wherever required. Alternatively, new models are available ex stock.

Whether a re-issue or a new stairclimber, AAT GB can provide comprehensive free training for two carers as part of the process.

“In the current strange times, it is crucial to employ whatever means are appropriate to expediate solutions for people in need,” says Peter Wingrave, AAT Director. “It offers added benefit if that solution is cost-effective against alternative solutions, and can be provided almost instantly, and requires no building work. The range of accessories means it can be easily tailored to each person for optimum safety and comfort.

“Our stairclimbers offer a best value, safe solution to getting people home from hospital if the limitation is accessing the different floors of their home. If someone needs a wheelchair to be moved safely up and down steps or stairs, a stairclimber provides the answer. It minimises, and can even remove, the transfer from wheelchair to transportation equipment and back again.”

The AAT stairclimber suits paediatric and adult users, and can accommodate narrow flights, turns and spiral staircases.

Versions either feature an integrated wheelchair (removing the need for a further transfer at the top or bottom of the flight) or simply clip-fit to the wheelchair. The AAT stairclimber then safely powers up or down the flight with little or no manual effort from the carer. Thus, it provides a quick and safe means for a carer to move anyone needing a wheelchair up or down stairs.

When not needed, the stairclimber can be folded discreetly away.
