Pivotell, an assistive technology firm specialising in reminders and pill dispensers, has newly launched the Pivotell 8 Alarm Watch, which is designed for medication reminders and keeping the user on track with daily activities.

The Pivotell 8 Alarm Watch is backlit and features a large display with large text, which is great for visually impaired individuals. The watch can either do vibrating or loud audible alarms. However, no text reminders accompany the alarms on the watch display when the vibrating or audible alerts happen.

The loud, audible alarm could be useful for someone with reduced hearing to remind them to take their medication. In another example, the discreet vibrating alarm could serve as a gentle reminder to stay hydrated for someone with dementia.

Up to eight up daily alarms can be set with an hourly repeat alarm option.

For example, a daily schedule could look like:

  • 7am – wake up (audible)
  • 10am – eat breakfast (audible)
  • 20am – take medication (audible)
  • 30pm – eat lunch (vibration)
  • 15pm – take medication (vibration)
  • 30pm – start dinner (audible)
  • 30pm – take medication (vibration)

The length of the alarm for the eight preset alarms is sound for 30 seconds or vibrations for 20 seconds with automatic shut-off at the end of that time. The alarm can also be stopped manually.

Laura Panayiotou, Product Specialist at Pivotell, told AT Today: “The Pivotell 8 Alarm Watch is ideal for those who prefer a watch with large text, a really nice audible alarm and an auto repeat countdown timer.

“Perfect for reminders for medication and keeping on schedule, which very much complements the Pivotell range.”

The watch also has an automatic repeat countdown timer for preset intervals, such as medication every four hours. This is for ongoing preset intervals and automatically repeats each time the countdown reaches zero (when set for repeat).

For example, the watch could be set every two hours for timed bathroom visits, every four hours for medication reminders, and every 20 minutes for position changes.

The watch beeps (two beeps per second) in a countdown for 10 seconds before the end of the interval. Then the alarm sounds for 30 seconds before it automatically resets itself to count down again. The countdown timer can be paused when a reminder is not needed.

The watch counts down in hours, minutes, and seconds, with a minimum interval of one minute.

There is also an hourly chime option, which is a one-second reminder every hour on the hour.

Last year, Pivotell launched the Vibratime Smart Watch, which is a silent, vibrating smartwatch that conveniently and discreetly reminds adults and children to do certain tasks or activities during the day.
