Next month, specialist hospital beds manufacturer Medstrom is hosting a webinar that focuses on the importance of skin assessment, with a particular emphasis on pressure ulcer prevention in dark skin tones (DST).

Entitled ‘Dark Skin Tones Matter: Knowledge & Skills for Accurate Assessment’, the webinar is taking place on 17 February 2022 from 14:00-15:30.

The webinar is CPD-certified and will allow attendees to gain 1.5 hours of participation towards their revalidation.

After five successful webinars in 2021, Medstrom is continuing the series into 2022. Its webinars provide a space for thought-provoking discussions, and the exchange of evidence-based research and practical experiences amongst healthcare professionals and their peers.

Referencing the November 2021 Best Practice Statement, which addresses skin tone bias in wound care, Medstrom’s educational session will expand on the practical guidance shared and help clinicians to identify the signs and symptoms essential for optimising treatment and improving patient outcomes.

Speakers will explore the evidence base for DST assessment, plus what professionals should be doing clinically to address this matter in patient care with first-hand illustrations.

Presentations will be delivered from:

  • Luxmi Dhoonmoon, Consultant TVN
  • Neesha Oozageer Gunowa, District Nursing Lead & Doctoral Researcher
  • Jacqui Fletcher OBE, Independent Nurse Consultant

There will be an opportunity for a Q&A session at the end of the presentations.
