In May 2021, 17-year-old Dylan Jones from Staffordshire started using his Trio electric standing frame from Baffin Technology Systems, which features the “revolutionary” Second Spine Technology.

Dylan lives with a complex range of conditions, which include intractable epilepsy, thin corpus callosum, difficulty sleeping, and a severe learning disability. As a result, he is unable to do anything for himself and requires around-the-clock care.

Dylan’s mother, Kerry, first discovered Baffin Technology on Facebook and got in touch. She was looking for a solution that would help transfer Dylan from a sitting to standing position once he had undergone surgery on his foot and hamstring.

Kerry said: “The Trio has made a real difference to Dylan; at present he cannot fully stand as he is still awaiting his surgery but it is already helping with his posture.

“The Second Spine Technology is genius as it moulds perfectly to Dylan’s spine and offers superb support regardless of what position he is in. Everyone at Baffin is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and I would not hesitate in recommending them to any other families looking for a similar solution for their child.”

Second Spine Technology system and the balance seat, which are found in Dylan’s Trio, have been designed to create and support optimal positioning of the user’s spine and pelvis. In addition, this technology helps to prevent or significantly slow down the development of certain conditions, and all this can be achieved while Dylan remains comfortable.

By doing this, the Second Spine Technology also helps to prevent further distortions.

Sit-to-stand devices available from Baffin Technology are multifunctional, as the user can sit up, lie down, and stand up at the touch of a button on the remote control without the need to be transferred to another piece of equipment. Placing a child in a standing position is time consuming, can often cause more stress, and result in an incorrect spinal position, but with the Trio this is no longer the case.

“I am delighted to hear that Dylan’s posture is already improving thanks to his Trio and on behalf of everyone here at Baffin Technology I would like to wish him the best of luck for his forthcoming surgery,” commented Baffin Technology Founder Marzena Komisarczuk.
